In celebration of His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation last year, Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is thrilled to announce the forthcoming planting of a commemorative ‘Coronation Tree for Powys’ in Dolerw Park. This historic event is set to take place on Wednesday, 31st January, marking not only a significant moment for the town but for the entire county of Powys.

The new tree will stand as an official commemoration of the coronation of HM King Charles III, and it is an honour for Newtown to be chosen by the Lord-Lieutenant as the location of the tree for Powys.

The selected tree, a cutting from Newtown’s existing iconic 350+ year old Black Poplar, a Woodland Trust Wales Tree of the Year finalist in 2019, is a symbol of continuity and the enduring connection between the town and its rich natural heritage.
